US Fed Keeps Rates Unchanged, But December Hike Looms: What It Means For Indian Markets (Outlook Money, opens in a new tab)
Read on Outlook Money (opens in a new tab)A possible US Fed rate hike could affect Indian sectors differently, depending on their borrowing costs, valuations and exposure to global demand. Sachin Kabra, a Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi)-registered investment adviser and co-founder of Foliyo.ai, said the bigger concern for Indian equities was the impact of higher US rates on global capital flows.
"Higher US bond yields make dollar assets more attractive, potentially putting pressure on FPI flows, the rupee and equity valuations," Kabra said.
He said the market reaction would also depend on how much of a potential rate hike was already priced in. A widely anticipated hike could have a limited impact, while an unexpected change in the Fed's outlook could trigger a sharper reaction.
