How much commission do you pay?

iThis chart assumes a 1% annual trail commission on the total portfolio value — a common rate in the industry. Over a 10-year horizon with ₹50L starting corpus and ₹12L added each year, this compounds to a significant sum.

This is not about discouraging distributor relationships — it's about helping you understand the value behind what you pay, so you can have confident, informed conversations with your advisor about the quality of advice you receive in return.

— Tamil Nadu Coverage

Our Tamil Nadu pages cover Chennai and Coimbatore.

Each city page has full adviser profiles and local planning notes. If you live elsewhere in the state, you can still use Foliyo — most advice happens over video and phone.

01 🏙️

Chennai →

12 advisers listed. Chennai plans often have to connect IT and manufacturing salaries, bonuses and RSUs, NRI accounts, inherited property and portfolios built up over decades.

02 🏭

Coimbatore →

8 advisers listed. Planning in Coimbatore often starts with business-linked wealth from manufacturing, textiles and MSMEs, alongside gold, property and Gulf or US income.

03 📍

Elsewhere in Tamil Nadu

SEBI's register also lists investment advisers with addresses in Erode, Kancheepuram, Salem and Tirunelveli. We don't have pages for those cities yet; families in Madurai, Tiruchirappalli or Salem can still be matched through Foliyo.

04 ✈️

Families with NRI members

When a family member works in the Gulf, Singapore or the US, residential status, NRE/NRO accounts and tax in two countries come before any product choice. Ask advisers on your shortlist how often they handle cross-border families.

Fee model is taken from the fee schedule the adviser has shared with Foliyo, before GST; confirm current fees with the adviser before you engage. A dash means the information is not stated here. SEBI registration links open SEBI's register of investment advisers, where you can search by registration number.

Verify any advisor's registration status on SEBI's Intermediary Portal ↗ before engaging. Foliyo AI is a matching platform — we are not a registered investment adviser.

— Choosing Well

How to pick a fee-only adviser in Tamil Nadu.

Four checks before you sign an advisory agreement — whichever adviser you choose, on Foliyo or elsewhere.

01 🔎

Look up the registration yourself

Every SEBI-registered investment adviser has a registration number starting with INA. Search for it, or the adviser's name, on SEBI's register of investment advisers. Some advisers are registered under a firm name, so the name on the register may differ from the person you meet.

02 🧾

Get "fee-only" in writing

Ask the adviser to confirm in the advisory agreement that they take no commission on anything they recommend. Someone who sells mutual funds for a commission usually holds an AMFI registration number (ARN) instead — that is a distributor, not an investment adviser.

03 ₹

Know what the fee is charged on

Fees are either a fixed amount for a plan or a year of advice, or a percentage of the assets the adviser actively advises on. Make sure a percentage fee is charged only on the advised portfolio, not on land, gold or a family house the adviser will never manage. SEBI requires the fee to be set out in the written agreement.

04 🤝

Test fit on the intro call

Ask how the adviser would handle your situation — a family business in Coimbatore, RSUs from a Chennai employer, parents in Madurai and a child abroad. If you would rather discuss money in Tamil, ask about that too. A good adviser explains trade-offs plainly and does not push you to decide on the first call.

— Common Questions

Questions Tamil Nadu families ask before choosing an advisor.

Which Foliyo pages cover Tamil Nadu?
Two city pages: Chennai, with 12 SEBI-registered advisers, and Coimbatore, with 8. This page brings all 20 into one table; the city pages have full adviser profiles and local planning notes.

If you live elsewhere in Tamil Nadu — Madurai, Tiruchirappalli or Salem, for example — you can still use Foliyo. Most fee-only advisers work with clients across India by video and phone.
Does my adviser have to be based in my city?
No. A SEBI investment adviser registration is valid across India, so an adviser in Chennai can advise a family in Tirunelveli or Erode. What matters more is experience with situations like yours — a family business, a pension, NRI accounts or a large inherited portfolio — and how often you will meet or review the plan.
How do I check a Tamil Nadu adviser's SEBI registration?
Every SEBI-registered investment adviser has a registration number that starts with INA. Search for it, or the adviser's name, on SEBI's register of investment advisers on sebi.gov.in. We checked all 20 numbers on this page against that register on 11 Oct 2026.

Some advisers are registered under a firm or LLP name, so the name on the register may not match the person you speak to. If in doubt, ask the adviser which entity holds the registration.
What do fee-only advisers in Tamil Nadu charge?
Fee-only advisers bill you directly, usually in one of two ways:
  • a fixed fee for a plan or a year of advice, typically between ₹20,000 and ₹1,00,000 depending on scope
  • 0.5% to 1% a year on the assets the adviser actively monitors and rebalances
Where an adviser has shared their fee schedule with Foliyo, the table above shows the fee model. Either way, SEBI requires the fee and the services to be written into the advisory agreement before you pay.
Is my bank relationship manager a fee-only adviser?
Usually not. Bank relationship managers and agents who sell mutual funds typically hold an AMFI registration number (ARN), which lets them earn commissions from the products they sell. A fee-only investment adviser is registered with SEBI, is paid only by you, and takes no commission. You can use both, but know which one you are talking to.
I'm an NRI with family in Tamil Nadu. Can a fee-only adviser help?
Yes. A fee-only adviser can plan around NRE and NRO accounts, repatriation, property held in India and the tax you may owe in your country of residence, without any product commission shaping the advice. Make sure your Indian bank accounts and mutual fund folios reflect your NRI status, and ask whether the adviser works with a tax professional in the other country.
