Earning Rs 2.5L a month but feeling completely left behind by my peers. How to stop comparing?

I am 35 and taking home about Rs 2.5 Lakhs a month which I know is a great salary.

I drive a simple hatchback and invest over 50% of my income into mutual funds.

However my college friends are buying luxury SUVs on EMIs and posting pictures from expensive international vacations.

I logically know I am building solid wealth but I constantly feel like a failure when I see their lifestyles.

How do I fix this mindset?

Measuring yourself by an inner scorecard is the only way to build true wealth and find lasting peace of mind. You have to ask yourself if you would rather be known as the most successful person in the world while internally knowing you are a fraud or be seen as a failure while internally knowing you are financially bulletproof. Living by an inner scorecard strips away the illusions of public perception and allows you to rationally assess your actual progress.

Your friends buying luxury SUVs on EMIs are playing a dangerous game of leverage to satisfy an outer scorecard. They are sacrificing their future financial freedom just to look rich to people they barely even like. You are quietly building a massive compounding engine with your 50% savings rate that will eventually buy you complete control over your time.

You also need to be very deliberate about the gravitational pull of the people you surround yourself with. If you associate with people who are obsessed with status and debt you will eventually regress and start making bad financial choices. You must be a harsh grader of humans and actively increase your time with exceptional people who share your values.

Eliminate the time you spend with those who pull you down into status games even if it feels like you are breaking old loyalties. Keep driving your hatchback and let your portfolio compound quietly in the background.
